Flannel

Introduction Of Flannel

The term “Flannel” means that people use combed (cotton) yarn to make a soft and velvety woolen fabric. People created it in Wales, England in the 18th century.

It generally refers to people use a mixed color coarse combed (cotton)wool yarn to make into spun (cotton) wool fabric with a floral style woven, it’s a layer of plump and clean fuzz inside cover, without revealing the weaving method, and has a soft and flat texture.

Main Characteristics Of Flannel

Flannel has a high gram weight, fine and dense plush, thick fabric, high cost and good warmth retention.
There is a layer of plump cover the flannel fabric, fine and clean fluff, with a soft and smooth texture that does not reveal the texture.

After shrinking and fuzzing, the texture is full and the velvet surface is delicate.

Production Method of Flannel

Firstly, dye some wool (or cotton fiber).

Secondly, add some original wool (or cotton fiber).

Thirdly, blend and spin it into a mixed colored yarn.

Finally, shrink and brush the woven fabric.

Most of them use twill weave, but there are also plain weave.

People use raw materials, except for whole wool (or pure cotton), are generally wool (or cotton) viscose blends, and some are mixed with a small amount of nylon fibers to improve wear resistance.

The Difference Between Flannel And Coral Velvet

In terms of the characteristics and thermal insulation effect of the fabric, both flannel and coral velvet fabrics have a comfortable wearing experience and good thermal insulation effect due to their soft surface fuzz.

However, in terms of manufacturing process and material selection, these two fabrics are different.

Before weaving, we usually dye the wool and blend it with the primary color of the wool into flannel fabric.

It uses twill weaving and plain weaving techniques, as well as shrinking and pulling treatment. The woven product has the characteristics of softness and tightness. We use polyester fiber as raw material to make coral velvet, and the weaving process mainly goes through heating, deformation, cooling, shaping, etc. People are also improving and upgrading the weaving process year by year, constantly adding new processes to make the fabric have richer layers and richer colors.

2.Raw Material Selection

The wool raw material people use in flannel is very different from the polyester fiber used in coral fleece. It shows that the fabric of flannel is thicker, the density of plush is very tight, while the density of coral velvet is relatively sparse.
Due to the nature of the raw materials, the texture of the fluff is slightly different. The texture of flannel is more delicate and soft, and the thickness and warmth of the fabric also vary. The wool make to fleece is thicker and warmer.

Actual Usefulness Of  Flannel

It is suitable for making beauty accessories, pajamas, blanket, bedding set , trousers tops , children’s clothing, etc. This fabrics can also be used as shirts and skirts. The raw material is 64 pieces of fine wool, and the warp and weft are made of 12 or more coarse combed woolen yarns.

The fabric structure has plain and twill patterns, and after shrinking and fuzzing, it has a full hand feel and a delicate velvet surface. The weight of the fabric is about 260-320 grams/㎡, and the thin one is about 220 grams/㎡.
People also use combed wool yarn or cotton yarn as warp and coarse wool yarn as weft to make flannel, and coarse wool yarn is sometimes blended with a small amount of cotton or viscose to spin.

In our main products, we also have many styles that use this material.
